JV Boys Basketball Recap

Our season started with a bunch of freshmen and only three returning players from last year’s team, so we didn’t have much experience going into the season. After closely losing a season-opening game we realized that we had a lot to grow as a team. So we worked hard in practice and focused our efforts.

In January we had two tournaments: JV Invitational tournament and HAC tournament.

Our JV invitational tournament was our biggest test of the season at the time because it was our first time against high-level competition. This tournament showed us where we were as a team. We only lost by two points against the last year’s runner up and reigning champs. This showed that we could compete with other top teams placing 3rd out of the 6 schools and finishing 3-2 at the tournament. During the HAC tournament, we showed that we have developed and improved as a team. We beat Concordia in the semi-finals but lost to Olympia by two points in the finals. Both teams that we lost to in the Hanoi League games.

Our culminating MRISA tournament put us against highly skilled and experienced teams. Other teams consisted of experienced juniors and seniors. However, we started out with two wins on the first day but unfortunately, we lost our next five games and finished 6th place. The results weren’t what we wanted;  however, all of our games were very close.

In reflection, I believe our team was special because we weren’t afraid of any team and we were always optimistic and believed that we could win. Secondly, we were resilient. We always fought back and found a way to come back regardless of the score and the time. Lastly, we were always having fun. We enjoyed every moment as a team. We enjoyed playing together and we made countless memories as a team.

As the captain of this team, I will always remember this team, this is my favorite year playing basketball because of the coach and players I’ve played with. If this core can stay together for next year then we can definitely contend for a championship.
