This week in Math we have been practicing our number knowledge looking at Doubles and Doubles plus one. We are reviewing our knowledge of Shape and investigating new shapes such as Trapezoids and Parallelograms. We are beginning to understand that 2D shapes with 4 sides are called Quadrilaterals. We continue to work on the numberline, place value and the 100’s chart and to show our mathematical thinking in different ways.
In Literacy this week we have worked hard to finish our narratives. We have continued to read from the works of Oliver Jeffers and have focussed on our skills of inferencing to understand hidden messages in his stories. ‘The Heart and the Bottle’ by Oliver Jeffers was a particular class favourite. We have looked at different ways authors present their work and chosen different ways to publish our stories. 1B is excited to share them with you next week – no sneak previews just yet! 🙂
UOI – How We Express Ourselves
Our Unit of Inquiry has encouraged students to think about the different ways they express themselves. They have enjoyed exploring different sides to their personalities and looking at how word families arise in connection to specific ideas.
This Friday 1B had the chance to visit 2B to savour a taster of Grade 2. It was an hour of learning and curiosity. The students are more than ready for their move on up and returned to the classroom excited for their next challenge!
Finally, the end of the year is always a good chance to share notes of appreciation and thank yous. The students thoughtfully produced beautiful thank you cards for our. cleaners and operations staff, as well as lovely digital creations for Ms Jill and our students who remain outside Vietnam.
