It has been an absolute delight to teach and learn from your children this week. Ms. Thu and I are the teachers, but it is amazing what we learn from our students every single day. Compassion, empathy, cooperation, different ways to communicate and risk taking just to name a few. Wow!
Friendships have begun to develop which aids in deeper exploration of the classroom. The children are learning to work together and problem solve when needed. Cooperative games such as “The Ladybug Game” and “Obstgarten” have helped relationship processes.
Ms. Nitasha joined us as a guest reader this week. The children love engaging in whole class read alouds so it was perfect. We also attended our first ECC assembly of the year this morning.
In K1, we have beautiful flowers delivered every week thanks to the cleaners. After close observation, the children carefully painted the flowers using different shades of color in our atelier.
We began our first Unit of Inquiry this week which is very exciting!
Our Transdisciplinary Theme is: Who We Are
Our Central Idea is: Personal choices affect ourselves and our community.
As part of our pre-assessment, The children drew pictures of the people who are important to them (their community). The pictures will be displayed in the classroom, if you would like to take a peek.
Responsibility is a key concept we will continuously address throughout this unit. Responsibility so far in our classroom is closely connected with caring for our classroom resources and tidying up.
Our lunches this year are being served family style. This is an amazing process of creating independence in the children. They are learning to set the table, serve themselves, sit properly for the entire lunch (which includes eating and conversation with friends), and scraping/stacking their plates afterwards. They are encouraged to try everything. It would be wonderful if you could empower your child to clear their own plates at home after breakfast and dinner in order to support classroom life.
Please enjoy the photos from our week so far!
- PLEASE send a hat to school with your child. We wear them rain or shine. If they don’t have hats, it restricts where they can play and leads to them being quite sad.
- Label all bottles and snack containers
- If you haven’t sent in a family photo yet please do so electronically.
Lastly, I am looking for a K1C room parent. The responsibilities are quite minimal and you will be getting more information from our SCO. Please send me an email if you are interested.
Have a lovely weekend!
Ms. Deborah & Ms. Thu
