Measures of Academic Progress Tests

The fall Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) tests will take place from Tuesday 7 May until Friday 10 May 2019 for students in grades three through eight.

The MAP tests are designed to determine a child’s instructional level and to measure academic growth throughout the school year, and from year to year in the areas of reading and mathematics. The MAP test is administered on a computer.

MAP tests are unique in that they adapt to be appropriate for a child’s level of learning. As a result, each student has the same opportunity to succeed and maintain a positive attitude toward testing. Over the testing period, students in grades three through eight will take three separate tests on three different days: Reading, Mathematics and Language. This year UNIS Hanoi will administer MAP tests once in May 2019.

The MAP tests are based on a curriculum adapted for international schools. The reading, mathematics and language assessments will measure students’ skills, knowledge and conceptual understanding in these areas.

MAP tests provide very useful information about student achievement and growth, as well as feedback for teachers in order to promote every child’s learning. Please remember that the school’s own assessment data, based on learning outcomes and IB assessment criteria, give a broad picture of what students know, understand and can do as a result of their learning.

There is no special preparation that needs to be done for the MAP tests. We hope that students will arrive for their tests well-rested and relaxed, with a positive mindset and ready to show what they know.

Results will be made available as soon as possible following the testing period.
