Welcome back! I hope you all had a fabulous and reinvigorating Winter Break and that you are ready for a productive second semester and a New Year packed with growth and positive memories!
Starting the year off is our Grade 4 Market Day which is coming up on Thursday, 31st of January. Your child has been working in a group to prepare for this Grade 4 big event. Ask your child to talk about how the groups were formed, their focused Sustainable Development, and mostly their Social Enterprise. You can extend your child’s thinking by asking what the group’s purpose is, which organization they are supporting and which child’s right(s) and SDG they are hoping to achieve. There is much to learn from this process.
Just before the break, for your fourth grader to understand the idea of a product, considering market forces, supply and demand, a target market, and a client’s criteria, they engaged in a challenge to design a Multiplication Game for Ms. Mindy and Ms. Ronke. The students followed a design cycle and worked with a partner for the challenge. The outcome of their products was impressive! You are welcome to come in and have a go at playing a multiplication game designed by your child and his/her partner.
Having our Buddy Class on Thursday was a great way to kick off the year! The buddies continued their Child’s Right Superheroes and Super Power stories. Using a software, Comic Life on their iPads, 4C students use features of narrative text to jointly construct a Heroes for Change story, edit and publish written text, and select, edit and place visual, print elements in their comic. This is an ongoing task. Look forward to reading their published stories soon!
