From the High School Counsellors

Dear UNIS Parents & Community,

Meetings have been scheduled for all of the Grade 10 students over the next several weeks and into January. Parents are strongly encouraged to attend the meeting with their child if they are able. If the timing does not work, the meeting can be moved to another time. In addition, if parents feel they would like more time with their child and counsellor, please contact our office assistant:

Grade 12 parents, please see notes below in ‘Grade 12: Updates’, Many thanks.

A programme specialist from Freedom for Chemical Dependency (FCD) will be conducting workshops and presentations with our high school students throughout the week of November 25-29.

Substance Use and Relationships
D-12 Parent Presentation –
November 25, 18:00 – 19:00, UNIS Hanoi Theatre (B10)

The use of alcohol and other drugs affects virtually all of a teen’s relationships: to parents, siblings, and friends; school, work, and play; mind, mood, and body; conscience, confidence, and integrity; to how they perceive their past and their future, and to their emotional, intellectual, and spiritual lives. This construct offers a provocative entry point for discussing the impact of use on the growing adolescent.

These programmes present a perfect opportunity for discussing alcohol and other drug-related issues with your children. Parental involvement is crucial to our efforts to reduce the risks teenagers face. We want our students to hear from both school and home that we are concerned about alcohol, nicotine, and other drug use by adolescents, and that we are committed to keeping our children safe.

SAT – Important:
College Board has taken extra security measure in test taker fraud.  If a student receives an email from the College Board to complete a survey or questionnaire, please do NOT ignore the email. It must be completed. Failure to do the survey would result in the student being removed from the test center roster and forbidden to take the exam that they have registered for.

Please note that this is a random selection process, and students do not need to panic if they do not get an email. We would like to remind students to check their junk inbox in case the College Board emails get delivered there by accident. Any questions, please see your counsellor!

International testing dates for the SAT are in October, December, March, and May. SAT Subject Tests will be available in October, November, December, May, and June. Students cannot sit the SAT and SAT Subject Tests on the same day. If you have any questions, please see your counsellor.
