This week K2C have been busy artists, researchers, readers, poets, story writers and film makers! Please have a look at our sunflower paintings on our classroom windows!

It might look like we are just having a lot of fun, however, as you can see our Inquiry into How We Express Ourselves involves a lot of transdisciplinary learning!

Thank you to the two ‘risk-taking’ families who have already signed up to perform: How We Express Ourselves in K2

If you and your child enjoy singing, dancing, playing musical instruments, storytelling, puppet shows or have any other creative, artistic special ‘talent’ you would like to perform as a special 2-3 minute performance.. Please sign up here.. On any of these days/times that suits.This is optional and a fun way for parents to be role-models of how to be risk-takers too !

We say a big thank you to Ms Michelle for coming to teach us how to be creative using the iPad apps.

To ensure a smooth transition from K2 to Grade 1, K2 went to explore the Grade 1 classrooms yesterday.Ask your child to describe what he/she saw.

 

Next Tuesday your children will  buddy up with a Grade 1 student and learn about how to eat lunch in the school canteen and play in the big playground.

Earth Day was April 22nd ! Perhaps your family would like to continue taking EarthDay action at home by trying some of these ideas.I hope you enjoyed watching and listening to K2C’s Earth day messages on Seesaw on Monday.

This week, Ms Michelle introduced K2C to the art of film making, using the Green Screen and an app on the iPad! 

At home you might like to discuss the meaning of these concepts: Perspective, Inspiration, and Inspired K2C listened carefully  to the story of Camille and the sunflowers and were curious to know more about Vincent Van Gough. Now Ms Cathie is ‘inspired’ to paint the flowers she sees in the environment! ‘To support our learning about ways we express our thoughts and emotions through The Arts, K2C parents are invited to perform withe their child !

 During the month of May- K2C and their families will be expressing themselves through THE ARTS. Thank you to Flora ( Lily’s Mum) for being this week’s Mystery reader and for teaching us how to speak some Chinese! ( Ask your child to teach you how to say: ‘baby’, mother’ and ‘hug’)

This week we started doing some assessment of learning. Its wonderful to see just how much progress each child has made in letter and sound recognition ! At home you might like to help your child practice forming letters, using vocabulary of starting on the ‘sky line, plane line and going down to the grass line or worm line.


Our Math learning today was focussed on the 
ACARA Outcome: Use direct and indirect comparisons to decide which is longer, heavier or holds more, and explain reasoning in everyday language. K2C made a family of worms. Each worm is a different length and shape. Some worms are long and some are short. ( You should have seen/heard your child comparing length of snakes on their seesaw. Here are some photos of the snake making in action!

At home, your child might like to find objects ( e.g. pencils, string, shoes, people)

  • compare them by length.
  • describe using vocabulary: longest and longer than, shortest and shorter than

K2C also enjoyed being creative in the maker space and used paper bags to make puppets!

We have a 5 day weekend..( I’m off to Luang Prabang)

Don’t forget it’s BOOK WEEK when we return. ES students are asked to come to school on Thursday 2nd May dressed as a book character and if you can, send along the book too.
