Who’s Your Favorite Book Character?

This week was a short one, filled with many engaging and interactive events such as Book Week, and a trip to the International School of Vietnam. On Wednesday, students had extended reading time and chose a meaningful word to share and we had a “mystery reader” stop by our class. Today, Thursday, students dressed up as favorite book characters and paraded with their buddies. Tomorrow, Friday, there will be a book sale for students to purchase books at discounted prices. Books cost between 10 and 40 thousand VND.

Trip to ISV
Making connections and deepening understanding from peers is always beneficial! Our trip to ISV today was successful. Their Grade 5 students shared their PYPX learning with us. Our fifth graders were an interested audience who had an opportunity to engage in activities presented by other fifth graders, just like them! The students consolidated their understanding about sharing the planet, our responsibilities in the struggle to share finite resources with other living things.

As the year starts to wind down, we are starting our final units for all subjects. Our last unit of inquiry will be about Transitions, physical, social and emotional. The focus of Math will be geometry, and students will investigate the various types of measurement through hands-on activities. In literacy, students will review “recount” writing and take reading assessments.

We hope to see you next week Friday, May 11, at 8:30 for our Grade 5 Transition Coffee Morning.

It was a joy to see fifth graders, after a well-welcomed long weekend, enthusiastic about the last quarter of school!
