Racquet Sports Summer Programme

UNIS Hanoi is pleased to offer a specialised Racquet Sports Summer Programme from 17-18 June. Led by the Tennis Academy staff, these two weeks gives players opportunity to try: tennis, badminton and table tennis, work on their skills and play matches in these sports.

The racquet sports programme caters to all levels of play. Kids that are new to the sport will be introduced to the basic techniques of groundstrokes and underhand shots, overhead strokes and footwork, in order to play half court and full court singles. Doubles rules and positioning will also be introduced. More advanced players will have the opportunity to learn more complex shots and the strategies and tactics of the sports all in a ‘play the game’ based approach. Each day will consist of game situations, technical/tactical coaching, match-play and other fun individual and team games.

Sunday, 25 November, 2018

If you’re a tennis player, you don’t want to miss out! The UNIS Hanoi tennis courts will be full of tennis enthusiasts on Sunday, 25 November as players from the UNIS community gather to remember a former staff member, Mr. Peter Goverde. Ten years ago the inaugural tournament was held, as UNIS Hanoi recognised and remembered Peter, a truly special PE teacher who passed away in the late summer of 2009. Peter brought the passion of tennis to the students of UNIS Hanoi and loved to play the game of tennis with everyone and anyone!  He is missed by those who had the pleasure of knowing him and this event is held in his memory.

A limited number of places will be available in each of the divisions.  Registration will be on a first come, first served basis. There is no entry fee for this event. A waiting list will be established and if openings do become available and we will contact those who are next in line. Closing date for registration is end of the day on Tuesday, 20 November, 2018. This tournament is prioritised for the UNIS community, but registration is extended to the wider Hanoi community.

The 2018 Peter Goverde Memorial Tennis Tournament will be divided into 2 parts:

  • Morning Session (08:00–12:00) for students
  • Afternoon Session (13:00–16:00) for adults

All play will be doubles (subject to numbers). UNIS community members are encouraged to come out to enjoy a fun day of tennis.  If there are heavy rains on Sunday morning, the tournament will be rescheduled.

The format and further details will be given closer to the event.  Students will play in 3 separate divisions:

  • Kindergarten 2 – Grade 2:  8.00 – 9.00 am
  • Grades 3 – 6:  8.30 – 10.00 am
  • Grades 7 – 12: 10.00 am – 12.00 pm

Adults will enter individually and be paired with a variety of different players throughout the afternoon in doubles.
