October 25th, 2019 Next Week is A

Dear Parents,

Thank you for all your support on UN Day. It was such a wonderful day to celebrate as a school community.

Some highlights from the week.

UOI – Learning to use Google Slides and comment appropriately.

Math – Answering math riddles and word problems, using number lines and gaining a greater understanding of using the benchmark number 10.

English – Learning how to writing a response, using description and compound sentences. Using prediction and connections when we read.

REMINDERS / INFORMATION

  • October 1 – November 1: Students must wear sport shoes for PE. If a student wears sandals, crocs, or other inappropriate footwear, they will not be able to participate in the skateboarding activities. Students are allowed to bring their own skateboards, helmets, elbow pads, and knee pads for this unit.
  • Library is Monday.

  • What did we write a response text about this week? What were the 5 parts of a response.
  • What did we learn about using a number line to help us add and subtract?

  • How can skip counting (by 10’s) help you add and subtract?
  • How can T.A.G. help you comment on someone’s blog post respectfully and responsibly?
  • What do you learn about using Google Slides?
  • What did you learn about when we spoke with our friends in India?

UPCOMING EVENTS

  • October 21: UN Day. Please plan to join us for this amazing celebration…it is not to be missed!  Students are dismissed at 1:00 PM following the lunch. If you wish to take your child earlier than 1:00 PM please inform Ms. Ha or myself directly before leaving. Thank you in advance for all of your support with the food and clean up. We can’t do this without all of you.

Dear Parents,

Thank you to everyone for your time on Monday. I really enjoyed the learning conversations and the students now have many goals to work on for the rest of the semester. I hope you all enjoy your break and look forward to seeing your all soon.

  • October 14 – 18 SDG Week: The week after Fall Break is SDG Week at UNIS.  During this week we focus our thinking and learning on the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. As part of our How We Organize Ourselves inquiry into digital citizenship, in Grade 2 we will explore the goals and share our learning through different websites and apps.
