Unité 2 : Comment nous nous exprimons.

Bonjour !

It was great to see you last week for our Parent-Teacher conferences and to share learning strategies.

Our students are now getting into more conceptual understanding. Under the transdisciplinary theme of How we express ourselves, and our central idea Language can be used to describe and see our environment differently, students dig deeper into the concept of gender. They learnt that objects have a gender too!

Our learning intentions for the unit are:

  • Students will be able to describe class items using colours applying the concept of gender;
  • Students will be able to take various actions at school;
  • Students will be able to connect the days of the week with their own weekly routine;
  • Students will be able to express their preferences in terms of activities at school.

Students particularly enjoyed checking their understanding of colours with Super Mini !

Unité 1 : Qu’est-ce qu’il fait ? Qu’est-ce qu’elle fait ?

Bonjour !

On Wednesday and today we completed our mid-unit assessment for our first unit. We checked our knowledge about actions, numbers up to 39 and basic questioning and answering before moving on the second part of the unit. We assessed ourselves with the 4 skills – speaking, listening, reading and writing.  On Monday, we will assess our previous knowledge about colours. Remember, we learnt our colours back in Grade 1, and I am sure we still remember them quite well! We will watch a video to start brainstorming, then we will listen to a song to start inquiring about colours and gender in French.

Please note that you are welcome to come to your child’s French class on Friday December 1st for ES Open Classrooms, 8:25-9:05, in B8-109 (library building).

Unité 1 : Comment nous nous exprimons.

Bonjour ! Salut !

This week we have started our unit 1 in Grade 2 under the transdisciplinary theme of How We Express Ourselves, and our central idea is We can use our language to describe the things we do, say and see everyday. This week we met with Maggie, Léo, Alice, Jeanne Legrand and Luc Legrand, characters from Les Loustics (Hachette FLE edition) that will give us lots of ideas on how to talk about someone.

Our learning intentions for the unit are:

  • Students will be able to greet people in different ways;
  • Students will be able to count up to 30;
  • Students will be able to ask and answer common questions to introduce themselves;
  • Students will be able to ask and answer common questions to introduce someone else;
  • Students will be able to identify shapes and colours;
  • Students will be able to talk about what people do;
  • Students will be able to describe a picture.

We will focus on being risk takers and principled learners, showing enthusiasm and commitment.

Bonjour !

My name is Ms. Laurie and I am your child’s French teacher this academic year. This is a Novice 2 class with children who were together in a Novice 1 group last year at UNIS. Our second graders are already very confident reusing previously taught knowledge and they are keen on learning more this year!

During these first weeks, we are learning to learn, which means that we are consolidating a strong set of skills that will help us communicate in basic situations in French only.

Our learning intentions are:

  • Students will be able to introduce themselves and greet others.
  • Students will be able to count from 1 to 20.
  • Students will be able to say the date the way French people do.
  • Students will be able to understand a variety of simple instructions.
  • Students will be able to collaboratively build our class essential agreements using the PYP learner profile.
  • Students will be able to recognize a variety of French cultural symbols.
  • Students will be able to grasp the concept of gender in French.

Your child comes to French class on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Once we start our first unit, we will use Les Loustics textbook and notebook (Hachette Français Langue Etrangère) throughout the year to support our progression.

Dear Parents,
Welcome to our World Languages learning community! We would like to take this opportunity to introduce our team and share about how to use this blog to enhance our partnership to support students’ learning.

In our team, we have 3 Vietnamese teachers, 3 French teachers, 1 Chinese Mandarin teacher and 1 Teaching Assistant. All languages teachers are native speakers. More information of individual teacher’s bio can be found in the tab of “About Us” on this blog.

During the first two weeks of school, all of our World Languages classes are focused on Learning to Learn. Students are getting to know their teachers and their new classmates. In order to achieve the school goal towards Excellent Learning, in our classes, we established the class essential agreements and commitments to the actions of being a responsible learner of their own and for others. In the meantime, some basic classroom language is introduced so that students will be able to follow the directions in the target languages in everyday situation.

On the World Languages Blog this year, you will find the curriculum information, language learning information from respective teacher, and it also provides you the opportunity to talk with the children about what we are learning, what we have learned, and what we will learn throughout the year.

We hope you will find this site a useful communication channel between our team and you as parents.
