Unit 3 Action to Protect our Environment

We finished our Celebration Unit. Students had learned some Chinese legents, such as Legend of Monster Nian, Legend of Laba Porriage, Legend of Jiaozi, Legend of Yuanxiao. Students also enjoyed making and eating Chinese New Year food. Some photos showing students’ learning are stored in their Chinese notebook.

We have started our new unit of Action to Protect our Environment .                                    Central Idea: We can each make a difference to the world through community action.       Students are learning a comic story to inspire them to take a variety of daily actions that impact our own, home and community.                                                                                 At the end of the unit, students will be able to create a slogan to encourage people to take small actions and explain why and how. In addition to it, Novice 2 and 3 students will create a story to apply the language they learned.

Unit 3 Who We Are

We finished our Celebration Unit. Students have been engaged in a variety of learning, such as retelling the legend of 12 Chinese Zodiac, paper cutting and reading.

We have started our new unit of Who We Are.                                                            Central Idea: Communication enables us to connect and understand more about ourselves and others.                                                                                                           We are learning about the our personal information of our own and our friends at UNIS.  At the end of the unit, Novice 1 students will be able to talk about themselves regarding name, nationality, age, colors and animals they like, as well as activities they like to do, school, grade and class they are in, subjects they like/dislike in comparison to their friends at UNIS. In addition to what Novice 1 can do, Novice 2 students will be able to create a digital book or in other format to compare themselves with their friends regarding birthday, feelings, family, where they live, arranging play date, use of but, because, etc.

Unit 3 Healthy Life Choices

We finished our Celebration Unit. Students have been engaged in a variety of learning, such as information gap about the 12 Chinese Zodiac, learning language through the traditional Chinese games, paper cutting and eating Chinese New Year food.

We have started our new unit of Healthy Life Choices.                                                            Central Idea: The choices people make affect their health and well-being.                        We are learning about making healthy choices regarding vegetables, fruit, drinks and exercises. We visited the school garden to recognize different vegetables, we will make fruit juice and other healthy food.                                                                                          At the end of the unit, students will be able to produce a poster or in other format with their goal for themselves regarding how can they be healthier.

Unit 3 Who We Are

We finished our Celebration Unit. Students have been engaged in a variety of learning, such as creating a rhyme for the Legend of Monster Nian, learning language through the traditional Chinese games and eating Chinese New Year food. We have started our new unit of Who We Are.                                                            Central Idea: Communication enables us to connect and understand more about ourselves and others.                                                                                                           We are learning about the personal information about some Significant People whom are explored by our students in their homeroom, such as Walt Disney, Eric Carle, Dr. Sue, Mar Polo, etc.                                                                                                                    At the end of the unit, students will be able to tell the name, country, what significant things they did. In addition, students will be able to talk about themselves regarding name, nationality, age, colors and animals they like, as well as activities they like to do. They will create a photo frame with all their personal information at the back side.

Unit of Travel There or Not

We are beginning our new Unit of Travel There or Not. We will be able to understand

Explorations and travels reflect personal values.

Inquiry into:

– Features of travel locations, include sites and cultures (form)

– Specific features you look for in travel (Perspective)

– Actions we take to save the sites for the future. (Responsibility)

At the end of the Unit, students will be able to describe the places they traveled or would like to travel, and what actions we can take.

Completion of Unit of We are all Connected

We have wrapped up our Unit of We are all connected, by completing our summative assessment. We invited some Chinese native students and adults to talk to us to get to know the personal information, hobbies, pets, the weather of our countries and some cultures of our countries.
