Last Friday the children made some delicious spring rolls together in our kitchen. Lots of cutting and rolling and eating!
We celebrated another birthday this week! Happy 5th Birthday Anh Minh!
We have read a couple of versions of Goldilocks and the Three Bears, paying special attention to how tidy the bears house was before they went on a walk/bike ride, and then how messy the house was when they returned. This led very well into our first provocation of our unit.
The children did a very thorough tidy up before lunch yesterday. They made sure they put everything where it belonged and nothing was left out. Immediately following lunch was their PE lesson at which time Ms. Thu and I turned the classroom upside down again (made a big mess). When they returned from PE, they were quite stunned. Many children recognized there was a problem right away and began to tidy up. Others talked about the problem and who they thought may have caused it. We then quickly gathered on the carpet to unpack the problem and discuss ideas and solutions. They decided to continue cleaning up so that they could play in the classroom the next day. Ms. Thu and I gave no prompts. The children cooperated and guided each other when needed to get the job done. We were so impressed and proud of them!
Tomorrow is International Dot Day and we celebrated early with our Grade 3 Buddies this morning. This was inspired by a book titled “The Dot” written by Peter H. Reynolds. Ms. Emma, our art teacher, organized an art project in front of the Centre for the Arts for D-5 students. The children watched the story on Tumblebooks with their buddies and then joined the project.
Enjoy these pictures of the week with your child. The children worked really hard on pencil grip and writing their names. The Go Fish math game was a big hit, as was a creative game of magical chairs the kids made up. Have your child count how many times they switched positions.
If you didn’t attend Back to School Night last week, here is the K1C presentation.
Next Tuesday is a 30th birthday celebration for UNIS. We will have an all school assembly followed by an all-school picture. Please send your child in blue for the occasion.
Lastly, I AM STILL LOOKING FOR A ROOM PARENT! 🙂 K1C really needs one. Trust me, it is not very demanding or time consuming. It’s exciting and rewarding! Please email me to say yes.
Have a lovely weekend,
Deborah & Thu
