This week we continued our inquiry into the transdisciplinary theme who we are with the central idea: Personal choices affect ourselves and the community. We focussed on expanding our understanding of community by exploring our connection to the Vietnamese community. We recorded what we know and wonder about the Moon Festival, and identified ways to find out more. Throughout the week we read books, asked questions of the local staff, and explored the Moon Festival through a variety of activities. We used starfruit to stamp papers and then used the papers to make lanterns. We created special fruit animals. We worked collaboratively to create a stunning class dragon. These activities allowed us to learn more about the Moon Festival and Vietnamese culture, while incorporating math, language and fine motor skills. Thursday was a beautiful celebration for the ECC and everyone looked wonderful in the colourful ao dais. We also continued to explore our understanding of peace this week. Each student created a small globe and explained his/her understanding of peace. I look forward to seeing you on Tuesday for Parent-Teacher Conferences. Please do sign up for a time if you haven’t already. There is no school for children on Tuesday. Please see this link for photos from this week: K1B Photos
