Welcome to UNIS and welcome to our classroom. I am a very proud Californian having been born and raised in the Golden State. I am from a small coastal town called Cambria, it is home to sea lions and sea otters (our elementary school mascot is the sea otter!)
I have been a classroom teacher for the last 16 years, and before that, I taught outdoor education. I have worked in Hanoi, Vietnam, Jakarta, Indonesia, and Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. I also taught back in California. I love my job, and I love learning. I am currently back at school getting my Masters Degree in Reading and Literacy with the hopes of someday joining a school as a Literacy Coach. I actually come from a family of teachers, both of my parents are teachers and my little brother is a librarian! So, I feel like I have always been a teacher because I’ve been surrounded by teaching.
I love dogs! I grew up with a dog, but I don’t currently have one. I have two cats ( one of which thinks he is a dog!) I enjoy traveling, reading, kickboxing and swimming. The beach is my favorite holiday spot, though I do love the fresh air in the mountains.
Over the course of the year, you will learn a lot about me. You are my family away from my family. In Hanoi, it is just me and two cats- Yoda and Princess Leia.
I look forward to learning with and from you.
