Unit 1 – ATL (Approaches To Learning)

The ATL: Thinking, Critical Thinking Skills    Critical Thinking

How can I think critically? Analysing and evaluating issues and ideas

  • Analyse complex concepts and projects into their constituent parts and synthesize them to create new understanding
  • because  I created a new understanding  by learning a new language and understanding it.

  • Identify trends and forecast possibilities
  • because I guessed on grammar if I wasn’t sure.

  • Revise understanding based on new information and evidence
  • because I based my guesses on the grammar I learned.

Creepy Poem

Here is a scary poem i wrote. ENJOY!

Scratching, I hear a sound.                                                                                                                           Crumbling, help me.                                                                                                                                         Abandon, alone and blind                                                                                                                                   Restless, like terror                                                                                                                                         Yelling, for help

Grade 5 Reflection

Here is a reflection for grade five I made. ENJOY!

This year I have been in grade five, this has led to some great achievements and new goals. I have made a lot of new friends, in the beginning of the year I had one or two friends where the friendship be stood on making fun of each other and name calling, now twelve months later I have a bunch of friends where we talk about our sharing interests and come with jokes. One thing I will remember is the camp. Even though I have been on several camps in Denmark were we have been sleeping in tents for a whole week. And then I was still really worried going to the camp, because I didn’t know like how often the other kids showered and if they snored or not, I was worried if I would fit in or not. Now I fit in in the class and I have a bunch of friends.

One of the improvements this year is technology. People might not think that technology is super helpful but it has helped me a lot this year. This leads to a big risk back in the beginning of the year, I signed up for the ES Geek Squad. This mend that I would have to help other people with technology, I’ve been to some conferences and helped a lot of people because of that choice. Another thing is that I signed up for the Coding Club ASA, I learned a lot from this ASA like making games and websites.

My English and math skills have also been improved a lot this year. In fourth grade math was evil puzzle feasting on my wrong answers, but now it is an undiscovered world of small Easter eggs. I also graduated from EAL1 to EAL2. I think I have worked really hard on achieving these goals, both in math and English. I can see that I’m one the best in the Danish school which show how I have improved since I left. This has defiantly been my best year at UNIS.

Mafia

”Tre, to, en, NUL!” Jeg løftede langsomt mit ur ned. En mand kom løbende ind af døren.                                                            ”Hr.

—Samtidig i CIAs hovedkvarter—

”Ja hr. Præsident. Skal nok. Javel.

”JO! ”Hvordan?”

SLUT

Here is a poem about my family. It uses metaphors to describe the different members.

_POEM_

My family is a computer.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                  My mom is the keyboard and the screen; she always is communicating and sharing.                                                                                      My dad is a USB; sharing his knowledge, and the events of his day.                                         Carl is all the games; he has a great amount of knowledge, but is always getting misunderstood when he is trying to help.                                                                                                                                                                                                                               I am the internet; I share my knowledge, but I usually get it from other sources.                                                                                                                                My little sister Rosie is the computer itself; she needs help from everybody around her to get her to work.

History Lessons

Here is a persuasive essay that I made about history lessons. Hope you agree and enjoy!

_History Lessons_

Here at UNIS Hanoi Elementary we don’t have history lessons. And that’s wrong! There are many reasons why we shouldn’t have history. However they’re far more reasons why we should. I will be taking you through some of these. History affects us in positive ways that ends up helping us later in life. Also history is fantastically important if we want to avoid failures from the past. History is one of the most important subjects so why haven’t studied it as a subject from grade one?

People say that history is unimportant, violent and that there is not space for it because of the other subjects. Firstly history shouldn’t be left out just because there is no space on the timetable! History should be one of the dominating subjects because it connects to almost all subjects, so that’s not a reason to leave history out. Violence isn’t a reason either; of course I can’t argue that violence is bad. We made history violent and we have to learn that humans are not all good and teaching them about war is a great way to get them to understand that. Please don’t say that history is unimportant, that’s a fool’s opinion. Again, history is so important because it helps you with other subjects like science and art. So make “history is unimportant” look like this “history is unimportant”.

History is a main subject

History affects us in positive ways that will turn out to be helpful. History helps you develop and comes in handy when you need to make tough decisions in your life. Did you know that research shows that children who was successful in other subjects as math and geography had a just as high a score in history. That shows that students find history just as interesting and fun as the other subjects on the timetable. History helps children when they grow up and they are working on a project at work. For an example, they’re doing something about the global warming and they want to write about when it started. However if they hadn’t had history in school they wouldn’t know that it began in the 1700 with the industrial revolution, the writing would come out with wrong facts and they might be fired. Would you like this to be you or your kid?

Kids Favorite Subject

History is really important if want to be successful and have a fun life. Imagine you’re in USA and you’re in a city with giant sky scrapers and shopping malls you could think of your old history classes and remember that wear you are now was once an in-the-middle-of-the-nowhere place. Isn’t that fantastic? History helps you understand yourself. If one of your relatives maybe fought against racism you might find that your duty is to have to finish his/hers project. And that makes you understand yourself. History helps you understand why different things are important in different subjects. You would know everything about Albert Einstein and you would get fantastic grades in math and science.

Certainly after all these reasons you would indeed agree that UNIS needs history as a subject. You wouldn’t want your children ending up with bad grades? Would You? History is clearly one of the most important and fun subjects of all time!  People don’t have any reasons why we shouldn’t have history lessons except if someone is allergic to the word, history. We get a lot more out of experiences if you know history. History should definitely be a main subject like math and reading. History in our time.

Math Budget

Here a Budget we did in class. Enjoy!
